Multidisciplinary by nature, DBC promotes the study of cultural heritage through cross-cutting technical and scientific methodologies.

We bring together different disciplinary perspectives to analyse cultural heritage in its multifaceted interactions between the man-made landscape, memory and the historical environment.

Our research focuses on the protection and enhancement of historical and artistic, archaeological, library and archival, musicological, bioanthropological and landscape heritage.

Research activities are carried out in accordance with the objectives of the Departmental Strategic Plan, with a programme structured into progressive tasks, monitored annually to ensure their effectiveness and quality.

To maximise its scientific impact, the DBC promotes the creation of interdisciplinary focus groups organised around strategic areas, capable of concentrating project work on topics of significance, with a particular focus on the Ravenna area – the Department’s historic Branch – whilst increasingly broadening its scope to include national and international collaborations.
