IP-CHART – Innovative Pathways for Cultural Heritage and Tourism Development in Iraqi Kurdistan

IP-CHART (Innovative Pathways for Cultural Heritage and Tourism Development in Iraqi Kurdistan) è un progetto finanziato dall’Unione Europea nell’ambito del programma Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE), gestito dall’European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Coordinato dall’Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna, il progetto si svolgerà nell’arco di 36 mesi, dal 1° febbraio 2026 al 31 gennaio 2029, con un contributo complessivo dell’Unione Europea pari a € 358.221,47. Il progetto nasce con l’obiettivo di rafforzare il ruolo delle università della Regione del Kurdistan Iracheno nello studio, tutela, valorizzazione e gestione del patrimonio culturale, riconosciuto come una risorsa strategica per lo sviluppo sostenibile e per la crescita del turismo culturale.

Attraverso un approccio interdisciplinare che integra competenze umanistiche, sociali e territoriali, IP-CHART mira a innovare l’offerta formativa e le attività di ricerca delle università partner, contribuendo alla formazione di nuove professionalità capaci di operare nei settori della cultura, del turismo e dello sviluppo locale.

Le attività del progetto prevedono l’arricchimento dell’offerta formativa delle università locali, il potenziamento delle competenze del personale accademico e tecnico-amministrativo, la creazione di laboratori e spazi dedicati alla ricerca e alla sperimentazione, nonché il consolidamento delle relazioni tra università, istituzioni culturali, enti pubblici e operatori privati. Particolare attenzione sarà dedicata al trasferimento di conoscenze e buone pratiche tra partner europei e iracheni, favorendo la costruzione di una rete internazionale di cooperazione accademica.

Grazie a queste azioni, IP-CHART intende contribuire alla conservazione e alla valorizzazione del patrimonio culturale del Kurdistan Iracheno, migliorare l’occupabilità dei laureati e promuovere modelli di sviluppo territoriale sostenibile basati sulla cultura, l’innovazione e il dialogo interculturale.

IP-CHART (Innovative Pathways for Cultural Heritage and Tourism Development in Iraqi Kurdistan) is a project funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) programme and managed by the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA). Coordinated by the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna, the project will run for 36 months, from 1 February 2026 to 31 January 2029, with a total European Union contribution of €358,221.47.

The project aims to strengthen the role of universities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq in the study, protection, valorisation, and management of cultural heritage, recognised as a strategic resource for sustainable development and the growth of cultural tourism. Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates humanities, social sciences, and territorial development perspectives, IP-CHART seeks to innovate the educational and research activities of the partner universities, contributing to the training of a new generation of professionals capable of working in the fields of culture, tourism, and local development.

Project activities include the enhancement of academic programmes, the strengthening of academic and administrative staff capacities, the establishment of laboratories and dedicated spaces for research and practical experimentation, and the consolidation of relationships between universities, cultural institutions, public authorities, and private-sector stakeholders. Particular emphasis will be placed on the transfer of knowledge and good practices between European and Iraqi partners, fostering the development of an international network for academic cooperation.

Through these actions, IP-CHART aims to contribute to the preservation and valorisation of the cultural heritage of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, improve graduate employability, and promote sustainable territorial development models based on culture, innovation, and intercultural dialogue.
